We’re counting down to the big day this weekend.  This Saturday, we hope you can come celebrate FoundDog Day with us at Highland Park Village.  We will be hosting a dog food drive as well and will be accepting donations of food, toys, treats, and more – anything that can help support our furry friends in need!  Everyone that brings something for the food drive is entered to win a $100 Highland Park Village Gift Card. Read the full event details here.

Meet a few of the dogs you’ll be seeing this weekend!

LUNA AND NALA

* Luna mixed color, Nala brown

These beautiful girls came to Angie’s Friends when they were only 3 or 4 months old. They were born to a dog who is chained in a yard and they never received any human affection or interaction until coming into rescue. Although Angie was not able to get Momma off the chain, she did at least get her spayed. Luna and Nala are still very shy but are learning to trust and love each other dearly.

This guy was found wandering the streets of west Dallas all by himself when he was only a few months old. He was desperately searching for food. Fortunately, Nugget is a smart, friendly pup and he came right to Angie to get rescued! This sweet boy can still be shy in the beginning, but opens up if given a chance. Nugget would be a wonderful and devoted family pet.   He’s good with kids and other dogs.

SHADIE

Shadie is a silly Catahoula mix and is 3 to 4 months old. This cute pup wandered up to the door of one of Angie’s friends one rainy day. Unfortunately, Angie’s friend couldn’t keep Shadie, but Angie was able to squeeze her into the program. Shadie is very social and loves people. This gal isn’t afraid to speak her mind on occaision. She’s good with kids and cats.

FoundDog Day 2015

unnamed-3

Instead of celebrating GroundHog Day, Highland Park Village is celebrating FoundDog Day 2015! There are so many dogs in need of a good home and on Saturday, February 7th you have the opportunity to take home a new addition to your family. Please join us and help support FoundDog Day.

We hope you can join us with Angie’s Friends and White Rock Dog Rescue.  We are excited to give all of these dogs forever homes at this upcoming event at Highland Park Village.  We are so grateful to the amazing volunteers who save these dogs lives each and every day.

About Angie’s Friends: Angie’s Friends was formed only 7 years ago, Angie Manriquez has she has been assisting stray and neglected animals in Dallas’ rougher neighborhoods for over 14 years and hasn’t slowed down a bit at 71 years old. She spends the majority of every day going house to house to feed, water, medicate, provide shelter for, and pat the heads of dogs that have extremely low quality of life, living on short chains in neglectful and abusive situations, never feeling wanted. Angie cares for stray and abandoned animals, getting them vet care and finding them loving homes. In addition, she helps many low-income families care for their animals, promoting spay/neuter, financially assisting with preventative and emergency veterinary care, and sometimes simply providing food to families who are struggling to feed their pets. A true advocate for animals, Angie is down in the trenches every day.

The Kiss and Tella Challenge 2014

Kissandtella-Header

It started in 2012, Stella feared the worst for New York City when Hurricane Sandy hit. She felt helpless watching the news and asked, “What can a KID do to help?!”

Her answer: cut down mistletoe, decorate it with bows and bells and sell it in the front yard. Her first stand sold out in thirty minutes. “Mistletoe is PURE PROFIT!”, she overheard someone say and indeed it was. By the time Christmas rolled around, Stella had raised $2,034 and had a check for the American Red Cross headquarters in New York City. After delivering the check in person, Stella learned first hand how the Red Cross disaster relief teams help people in need. She was invited to Brooklyn, meeting fire fighters who had saved entire neighborhoods, while their own homes succumbed to Hurricane Sandy. They thanked a kid for helping.

This year, the kids are back again selling mistletoe this month. And, 100% of the proceeds from the 2014 Mistletoe stands will go to the North Texas Food Bank! Did you know that One dollar feeds THREE meals at the Food Bank? Won’t you come and see the kids in the red hats at a stand this December? Or JOIN in the Kiss-and-Tella challenge! Help Stella and Quinn and gang reach their GOAL to feed 30,000 people with the help of the North Texas Food Bank.

Learn more here.

Don’t Miss Your Family’s Holiday Tradition – A Christmas Carol is Selling Out!

797167DTCFY15Site ACC2014 730w200t

Last year 26 performances were sold-out! Buy your tickets today! Use code ACCINSIDER when purchasing your A Christmas Carol tickets for your chance to win a 2015-2016 DTC Subscription!

‘Tis the season to be jolly, when last season’s sold-out, family-favorite, holiday production of A Christmas Carol returns to the Wyly Theatre. In this delightfully re-imagined take on Dickens’ enduring classic, featuring Chamblee Ferguson as Ebenezer Scrooge, the audience is surrounded by the actors, with magical ghosts flying above, scary ghosts bursting out of the floor, and snow falling on everyone. Full of traditional Christmas hymns and songs in fresh, toe-tapping musical arrangements, joyful bursts of choreography, and eye-popping special effects, A Christmas Carol is Dallas’ newest “must-see” holiday tradition. Appropriate for families. Recommended for ages 8 and above.

This post is sponsored by the Dallas Theater Center.
