Hermès - Spring 2013

The Hermès spring 2013 collection is breathtaking.  This particular collection by designer Christophe Lemaire was inspired by the luxury of travel. Style.com wrote, “Lemaire imagined the woman at the heart of today’s collection on a perpetual journey, so he slung a matching backpack over her dress in honeyed leather.”  We love the use of silk as well.  The fashion house’s famed printed silks were crafted into fluid tops, pants, and shorts.  It was a modern mix of prints and a stunning blue palette of aqua marines and cobalt blue.  The color blocked leather added an extra contemporary punch with clean lines and sophisticated pieces.  This is one journey we can’t wait to embark upon.

Carolina Herrera Fall 2013 Backstage

For her fall 2013 collection, Carolina Herrera imagined a heroine of the 1940s.  We were so excited to receive a special backstage peek of the models, clothing, accessories, and beauty trends at the show!  One of the collection’s major statements was certainly fur- in rich tones like turquoise.  Additionally, there was an emphasis on tiny waists and full skirts.  The collection left Style.com wondering: “Who knew Zuzanna Bijoch could do such a passable Katharine Hepburn?”

Fall 2013 Fashion Week Recap - DVF, Trina Turk, Tory Burch

DVF- fall 2013

Here are some of our favorites when it comes to recaps of fall 2013 collections for DVF, Trina Turk, and Tory Burch.

For DVF: “Every woman wants to be glamorous and rock ‘n’ roll,” Diane von Furstenberg told Style.com, “It’s not about going to a party. It’s life as a party.”  It was another successful glam rock collection for Furstenberg - wild with animal prints, her classic graphic wrap dresses, and touches of metallic and fur.  DVF’s fall 2013 collection is wearable, sexy, and of course - the epitome of hard rock glamour.

For Trina Turk: it was the designer’s first time to present at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.  The collection was certainly more streamlined, rich, and seventies-inspired with less Palm Springs flair.  “It’s a conscious decision to upgrade,” Trina Turk told Style.com, “We’re taking ourselves a little more seriously and felt this was worthy of being shown on a larger scale.”  The rich purple and reds, gorgeous tweeds and trousers have left us longing to shop our Trina Turk boutique at Highland Park Village this autumn.

For Tory Burch: Tory Burch’s fall 2013 collection was inspired by the works of artist Gustav Klimt. It’s infused with dragonfly prints, Art Noveau inspiration, and scarab designs.   Our favorites?  The rich purple hues and gorgeous red ornament, the black and white print florals, and the beautiful long sleek streamlined evening gowns.

WWD - Hermès Quarter 4 Sales Are Soaring

According to WWDHermès International said Tuesday it expected to post a record operating margin in 2012 - beating its target for annual sales growth after a surge in revenues during last year’s fourth quarter.   The luxury French fashion house, famous for its silk scarves and the Birkin bag’s 4th quarter 2012 sales were up 22.5% from 2011. Hermès attributes much of its success to consumers turning to exquisitely crafted understated luxury goods rather than over-the-top luxury. Hermès chief executive officer Patrick Thomas told WWD: “What we do is perfectly in sync with the aspirations of consumers, first in Europe and the United States, now also in China, since more and more Chinese consumers are looking for discretion and quality objects for pleasurable living, rather than the ostentatious luxury that symbolized the early days of luxury.”  A return to true craftsmanship and simplicity in the fashion market seems to suit Hermès well.

Look for Thrills Without the Frills from Thursday Styles

Dior

Fashion designer Jil Sander told The New York Times  she prefers the word purity to minimalism when describing the consumer trend of moving away from often over-the-top garment details in fashion.  “Consumers are getting sophisticated enough to understand pure design,” fashion trend forecaster Sharon Graubard told the Times, “They don’t need junk on their clothes to feel like they’re getting bang for their buck.”

So, say goodbye to ruffles, fringe, gems, and gold?  Is polished the new glam? After seasons of lavish embellishments, it seems consumers will lean towards more tailored, well-cut, and streamlined looks in the coming seasons.

To jump on board, checkout spring 2013 looks from Akris, Stella McCartney, and Rag & Bone at Highland Park Village.  All of these pieces focus on beautiful cuts and tailoring and are still quite striking.
