It was an honor to hear the designer speak about the challenges she faced building her brand and steps to her success. Here are a few photos we snapped at the event. For spring 2015, designer Tory Burch looked to the life and style of French painter Francoise Gilot, a former lover and muse of Pablo Picasso and the mother of his children, Claude Picasso and Paloma Picasso. Burch told Style.com she referenced Gilot for inspiration “because she was a strong woman and a great artist.” Influences were found in the Toile de Jouy pattern that depicted the cypress around their villa in Villauris. You can see the rustic refinement captured in the iconic photograph of Francoise Gilot and Pablo Picasso by Robert Capa on the beach at Golfe-Juan in 1948. “The rawness of the collection was its charm,” wrote Tim Blanks. This week, there’s an excellent article on fashion designer Tory Burch in Fast Company. As the Business of Fashion writes, “This is what passes for Tory Burch’s happy dance. In 2014, her company will post more than $1 billion in revenue just 10 years after its public debut. Nobody in recent memory has built a fashion-and-lifestyle business as quickly as she has.” Burch credits most of her success to telling her own story - that of her family and their travels and what she knows as a friend, mother, daughter, and excellent hostess. The Tory Burch fall 2014 collection was inspired by armor. Burch’s father and grandfather had both been collectors of armor and Burch worked to find the perfect balance between fierceness and delicacy in her designs. Many of the pieces offered a Medieval feel with tapestry inspired prints in deep crimson hues. We loved the structured jackets, rounded shoulders, and pleated leather. The detailed belts and gemstone embellishments were the perfect royal touches.

What is your favorite way to dress up an outfit? For us, a clutch is an easy way to add a pop of color and personality to any ensemble, day or night. Our favorite part? The petite size only allows for the bare necessities, and there’s something liberating about ditching your go-to tote for a small statement piece. Just throw in a bright lip color, breath mints, and your wallet essentials, and you’re ready for a night on the town.

This week, we had an afternoon that was more than warm enough for Rachel to sport a winter white tunic and a leather jacket at Highland Park Village. Looking for fun ways to wear resort around town, she paired the Sail to Sable corduroy tunic with a navy leather Rag & Bone jacket, her favorite Tory Burch flats, Jimmy Choo sunglasses, and a small Pilot bag from Rag & Bone resort 2013 for a look that was quite comfortable - yet pulled together. “It’s the perfect outfit for some afternoon shopping at Highland Park Village or grabbing a quick happy hour with friends,” said Rachel, “And, I love that the leather jacket has removable sleeves.”
