A January Afternoon At Highland Park Village

This week, we had an afternoon that was more than warm enough for Rachel to sport a winter white tunic and a leather jacket at Highland Park Village.  Looking for fun ways to wear resort around town, she paired the Sail to Sable corduroy tunic with a navy leather Rag & Bone jacket, her favorite Tory Burch flats, Jimmy Choo sunglasses, and a small Pilot bag from Rag & Bone resort 2013 for a look that was quite comfortable – yet pulled together. “It’s the perfect outfit for some afternoon shopping at Highland Park Village or grabbing a quick happy hour with friends,” said Rachel, “And, I love that the leather jacket has removable sleeves.”

FoundDog Day

Charlie is approximately 65 pound mix that is about 5 years old. She was abandoned at Bark & Purr, but we don’t understand why since she is nothing but sweetness. Charlie is easy-going girl, loves people, and is good with other dogs. She loves to play fetch and is a total goofball. She also knows how to sit on command – if you know Spanish.

Instead of celebrating GroundHog Day, Highland Park Village is celebrating FoundDog Day! There are so many dogs in need of a good home and on February 2nd you have the opportunity to take a home a new addition to your family. Please join us and help support FoundDog Day.

We hope you can join us with DFW Furgotten Friends and Angie’s Friends.  We are excited to give all of these dogs forever homes at this upcoming event at Highland Park Village.  We are so grateful to the amazing volunteers who save these dogs lives each and every day.  Be sure to check out the local animal rescue and education group EARS too.

About Angie’s Friends: Angie’s Friends was formed only 5 years ago, Angie Manriquez has she has been assisting stray and neglected animals in Dallas’ rougher neighborhoods for over 14 years and hasn’t slowed down a bit at 71 years old. She spends the majority of every day going house to house to feed, water, medicate, provide shelter for, and pat the heads of dogs that have extremely low quality of life, living on short chains in neglectful and abusive situations, never feeling wanted. Angie cares for stray and abandoned animals, getting them vet care and finding them loving homes. In addition, she helps many low-income families care for their animals, promoting spay/neuter, financially assisting with preventative and emergency veterinary care, and sometimes simply providing food to families who are struggling to feed their pets. A true advocate for animals, Angie is down in the trenches every day.

Event: FoundDog Day

Date: Saturday, February 2nd, 2013

Location: Center Court between Lela Rose and Billy Reid

Time: 11am-4pm

Reason: Provide rescued dogs with a good family and safe home

Ila was abandoned at Samuel Grand Park with her pals, Izzy and Isaak. Ila is a super sweet girl who you can tell is appreciative of being rescued. She’s enthusiastic and has an easy temperament. Ila gets along great with children and other dogs and would be an excellent addition to an active family or a great running companion.

Isaak is about 2 years old and is a very sweet and playful boy, but is also kind of a macho guy. Isaak really thinks he has to be in charge and would be best with a one-dog family. He’s curious and affectionate and good with kids. Isaak was abandoned at Samuel Grand Park with his pals, Ila and Izzy.

Izzy: this beautiful boy is about 1 ½ years old and is an all around joyful dog. Izzy was abandoned at Samuel Grand Park with his pals, Ila and Isaak. He’s very social and affectionate and is guaranteed to make you smile. He gets along great with children and other dogs and would be an excellent addition to an active family or a great running companion.

Larry is a goofy 7-month old lab mix who is estimated will weigh 60 or so pounds when full grown. He was found on the street with his sister, who has already found a home. Larry is a sweet, affectionate, curious pup who will be a great addition to a family.

Peaches is a pit mix who adores people and longs to spend time cuddling up to you. She’s great with kids and other dogs, as well. Peaches came into rescue after being abandoned in the yard when her ‘family’ moved away. Peaches truly can’t get enough lovin’ and will be a great companion.

Timmy and Julie

Timmy and Julie are almost identical Chihuahua mix siblings. They are only about 7 months old and estimated to weigh 10 pounds when full grown. They are sweet and playful, without the anxiousness often associated with little dogs. These two are good with other dogs, kids, and cats and will be great companions.

Volumes of Style to Enjoy at Frederic Fekkai

We love Frédéric Fekkai at Highland Park Village!  On our recent visit, we spotted fashion blogger Krystal Schlegel who kindly allowed us to snap a few pictures of her during her appointment.

Enjoy the Q&A with the salon team!
S&S: What makes Fekkai standout from other salons in your opinion?

Fekkai:  Fekkai is about effortless style, incredible luxury and a strong focus on the individual client. We want to create something for you that fits into your life, your schedule, your style. When you are in the chair at Fekkai, we want to listen to you, take care of you and make it all about you. There is no greater luxury.

S&S: What are some of the top hair trends and styles you are looking forward to most for spring?

Fekkai: There were a lot of sleek looks on the spring runways that were clean and modern; we saw that having sleek hair doesn’t mean you need to have flat hair. The sleek look can have a bit of volume, lots of shine and fluid movement.

S&S:  What are some of the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to styling their hair?

Fekkai: Many people don’t know which styling products to use or that they should be using certain products! For example, if you frequently use heat stylers, apply a heat protectant spray beforehand to prevent as much damage as possible and hairspray should be the last product you use to keep the style in place.

S&S: What are some quick, easy fixes you’d suggest to update one’s look for the new season?

Fekkai: Healthy hair is always on trend, in season and greatly desired. Apply a deep conditioning treatment once a week to repair any damage and to hydrate strands.

S&S: In three words, how would you describe the Fekkai salon experience?

Fekkai:  Luxurious, Intimate, Blissful

S&S:  What do you like best about your Dallas Fekkai salon? Why is Highland Park Village a perfect fit?

Fekkai: The Dallas Fekkai salon’s location is an oasis of relaxation. Step in, sit back and settle in for the best salon experience in Dallas. Highland Park Village is a perfect fit because it is the center of elegance and we call Diane Von Furstenburg and Carolina Herrera neighbors.

S&S:  What make Fekkai products so effective?
Fekkai: Frédéric’s passion for hair and decades of experience go into each product.  They are designed to be effective solutions for individual concerns.

S&S: Any exciting new products, services, or plans for the New Year you can share with us?

Fekkai: The Fekkai salons are always introducing new and special services, stop by and indulge in one!

Loro Piana Baby – My First Baby Cashmere

There’s nothing quite like the cashmere of Loro Piana.  We’ve been swooning over these adorable illustrations depicting different pieces of clothing that just might constitute as “Baby’s First Cashmere _” (fill in the blank).  Loro Piana’s My First Baby Cashmere includes true luxuries for little ones.

As for the Tutina Lullaby onesie, it’s a precious knitted one piece for newborns made of baby cashmere, an extremely soft and rare fiber that comes from the underfleece of young Hircus goats.  The Lullaby Blanket is  two-in-one blanket that is both warm and luxurious. Loro Piana writes, “one layer is made of ribbed and cable knitted baby cashmere, an extremely soft and rare fiber that comes from the underfleece of young Hircus goats. The other layer is made of Wind microfiber that has been treated with Storm System® to make it waterproof and washable.”  The Lullaby Accessories are knitted socks, hat and mittens for newborns made of Loro Piana baby cashmere. And, don’t miss the ultra-luxe Caban Lullaby Sweater,  a precious knitted cardigan for newborns.

The hardest part now? Choosing which piece to give!
