Rag & Bone Designer David Neville Visits Highland Park Village

Eliza Summers, Gwyneth Paltrow, David Neville, Stephen Summers

It was wonderful to welcome rag & bone designer David Neville to his Dallas boutique on Friday, November 21st for a private shopping event. Hosts included Jamey and Marnie Wright, Stephen and Elisa Summers and David Neville. Guests sipped a specialty rag & bone cocktail, enjoyed light bites, and shopped the fall/winter 2014 collection with Neville himself. From leopard prints to velvet jackets, the boutique is stocked with winter-ready pieces that will take you from the office to your holiday party.  The designer answered a few questions for us on what makes rag & bone continuously stylish.

S&S: We’ve heard rag & bone described as the “cool girl’s uniform.” How do you continue to keep rag & bone on the edge of cool? How do you go about anticipating trends and staying ahead of the curve?

DN: New York City is a big part of that.  Manhattan is comprised of such an interesting mix of people and fashion. We draw on that for the vibe and aesthetic of our brand. It’s all about high and low, uptown and downtown.

S&S: If you weren’t a fashion designer, what else could you see yourself doing?

DN: I’d be playing a lot more golf with Stephen Summers. He took me to play golf with him recently and I beat him. He gave me a lot of shots.

S&S: Rag & Bone has a great fit without every being too stuffy or too revealing - how do you find the right balance of sexy?

DN: We’re all about making women feel good about themselves and what they are wearing.  We want them to feel sexy.

S&S: Where do you source all of your fantastic materials?

DN: Our clothes are very well made.  We learned about the fashion business through where materials were made.  A vast majority of our fabrics are made in the USA. We try to make our clothes wherever they can make them best.  The integrity of our brand rests upon utilizing the highest quality we can find – it’s very important to us.

S&S: What will the rag & bone gentleman and lady be wearing this holiday season?

DN: For women it’s snow leopard, knitwear, leopard, and velvet – our black shiny velvet is perfect for holidays in Texas. For men, a lot of knitwear and great jackets.

S&S: What do you love best about Dallas?  How do you think the rag & bone aesthetic blends with this city?

DN: I think it’s certainly one of the best malls in the country, if not the best. It definitely has the most elevated mix of brands that I’ve ever seen – a lot of European designers. Rag & Bone fits in because we make the every day clothes men and women want to wear. Designer brands don’t always work well for that.

S&S: When Highland Park Village is mentioned… what comes to mind??

DN: Christmas lights and margaritas from Mi Cocina.
